Ontario Quantum-Nano Centre

The Quantum-Nano Centre was named after Waterloo chancellor Mike Lazaridis and his wife Ophelia. The new centre will be home to the Institute for Quantum Computing, the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology and an undergraduate program in nanotechnology engineering and will be the first research facility of its kind in the world. The five-story, 900 m² building is expected to be completed by 2009. ComBAR will be installed as plain reinforcement in the approx. 610m² raft foundation on the ground floor. Here the fact that ComBAR bars are non-metallic and therefore non-magnetic was the deciding property in addition to its superior bond properties (limitation of the crack widths) and durability characteristics.
